We’re all about the high-low mix here at GTG Towers. We believe there are some products that it’s worth investing in or buying the best version you can afford (we’re looking at you high strength vitamin C serums) and there are other products where the budget versions are just as good, if not better, than their pricier counterparts. Hence why we love all of the best budget mascara options out there. And we’re not alone, when we bumped into beauty content creator and founder of body product brand Mirror Water, Estée Lalonde she was brimming with all the products she believes are worth throwing some money at and others where it is common sense to save some pennies. So we asked her to film her thoughts and share her insider expertise - and she delivered.

Estée’s splurge and save hair transformers

Splurge: Olaplex No.3, £28

Save: Mane ’n Tail Detangler, £5.84

When it comes to her hair, Estée gets her hair bleached quite frequently so it makes sense that she invests in a really good at-home hair treatment mask to not only keep her hair in great condition but to lock-in that expensive salon colour. She saves money on a detangling spray as she believes there’s little difference between them and as her bleached hair has a tendency to get quite tangled and knotty she uses a lot of them.

Estée’s splurge and save skin saviours

Splurge: Medik8 C-Tetra, £30.20

Save: The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, £7.90

Estée has amazing skin and we agree with her whole philosophy. Save your money on a hyaluronic acid serum as the budget versions are really good. Hyaluronic acid is not an expensive ingredient to begin with so if you’re buying a dedicated one there’s really no reason to spend more than £15. Lalonde invests her money in a vitamin C serum which over time gets skin glowing and looking more radiant, so of course you want a good one

Estée’s splurge and save body buys

Splurge: Mirror Water Smooth Body Oil, £35

Save: Bounabay Wooden Body Gua Sha, £14.99

As the creator of a body brand of course, Estée is going to use a fabulous body oil - the one she created! Body oils are a great place to invest a little more money because the more you spend, the better quality of the oil and the less greasy they feel on the skin. Her genius save is on a body gua sha tool which she uses alongside her body oil to encourage lymphatic drainage which we should all be doing on the regular.

Estée’s splurge and save makeup must-haves

Estée explains that when you’re using great skincare then you don’t want to cover up all that hard work with loads of makeup but the one product she swears by to create instant glow and to give a slightly blurring effect to the skin is the iconic Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter. And you will always find an affordable mascara in her makeup bag - Estée thinks they all look and do the same so we’ve popped in one of our all-time lash favourites.
