Following on from the astounding success of Guerlain Double R Renew & Repair Advanced Serum comes the coordinating eye serum - Guerlain Double R Renew & Repair Eye Serum, £102 - designed to tackle all signs of ageing around the delicate eye area and it has surprising benefits for lashes too. Oh, and it also has a gorgeous scent created by Guerlain’s master perfumer, Thierry Wasser.

But let's take a look at the key ingredient that’s integral to the brand but to this special eye serum in particular: honey.

Guerlain’s honey heritage

Guerlain’s relationship with bees started in 1853 when brand founder, Pierre-François-Pascal Guerlain created a fragrance with a bee emblem on the bottle. Fast-forward to the present day and Guerlain’s research teams have spent decades studying how honey can repair and strengthen the skin barrier, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and pigmentation as well as firm. And it’s for all these reasons that the Abeille Royal skincare range, which has honey at its centre, was created.

Guerlain is so invested in this special ingredient that the beauty empire has created its own conservation programme to ensure that bees are protected and that beekeeping and honey harvesting is done sustainably and with zero impact on the natural world. This includes the creation of an international bee school that teaches primary school children about the role of bees and the importance of protecting them as well as a partnership with UNESCO to encourage more women to take up beekeeping, which has Hollywood actress, Angelina Jolie as its ‘godmother’. Not only that but to celebrate World Bee Day on 20 May, Guerlain will donate 20 per cent of in-store and online purchases (ending on 22 May) to the Guerlain for Bees Conservation Programme.

And honey is, of course, the star ingredient in this new eye serum.

Dual-powered formula

Housed in a double sided-pump bottle (that’s made from 20 per cent recycled glass) are two separate formulations, made from 95 per cent naturally-derived ingredients, that when combined together help target all the signs of eye ageing that we’re concerned with; dark circles, fine lines and loss of firmness.

On one side is the ‘repair’ complex containing a fermented white honey that has extraordinary radiance-restoring properties and works on diminishing the appearance of hyper-pigmentation. This has also been teamed with Black Bee honey and three other kinds of honey from biodiverse landscapes - meaning the honey is even more potent - from Corsica, Ikaria in Greece and Åland in Finland. As well as an exclusive royal jelly that is also harvested in France.

On the other side is the ‘renew' formula that contains an anti-fatigue complex, which contains peptides to stimulate the eye contour as well reducing dark circles from lack of sleep and to reduce puffiness.

The results are in

Guerlain trialled the serum and after one month the luminosity of the eye area had increased by 47 per cent and the appearance of dark circles had reduced by 35 per cent. However, the surprising results were that the eye cream also helped strengthen and thicken eyelashes making this a truly does-it-all eye product.
