Fun, hugely talented and a dead ringer for Damian Lewis (although much taller), hair stylist Ben is the type of man that every woman desires in their little black book. Lucky ladies to receive the Cooke coiffure treatment include Minnie Driver, Cheryl Cole and Mischa Barton to name just a few, and the men love him too as David Beckham will testify. When Ben isn’t styling Leona Lewis or creating beautiful ’dos for Amanda Holden, you can find him at Lockonego, the boutique Chelsea salon that he founded in 2005 with fellow hair hero Jonathan Long.

Ben was born into the hair industry; his mother was a hairdresser and he loved to watch her at work. His drive and natural talent led to a job in a prestigious Knightsbridge salon at the age of fifteen, with further training at Toni & Guy and a City and Guilds qualification. During a year out in Australia Ben built up an impressive portfolio, working with prominent glossies before returning to London.

The rest is history; from assisting hair legend Guido Palau at shows to creating innovative looks for music videos, celebrities and discerning editors, Mr Cooke has well and truly earned his place in the hair hall of fame. A role as brand ambassador for Herbal Essences and appointments in salon keep Ben busy, but when he’s not flexing his scissors you’ll most likely find him soaking up the sun in Ibiza or coiffing fine wine in Cape Town. Oh, and if Ben were an animal, he’d be a giraffe. The reason for this will become clear when you meet him…

Find him at Lockonego, 394 King’s Road, London, SW10 0LN

  • Brea price asked: Hi, I’m thinking about dying my hair blonde at home. My current hair color is a dark or dirty blonde color, maybe a light brown depending how you look at it. My skin tone is olive but warmer tones complement me better. I’ve done a lot of research and know olive is a cool tone but my natural hair gives off a warmer look. To be safe I figured I would just go with a neutral hair tone at around a 9n but I want my roots to be darker and gradually get blonder to the ends. So I thought I would dye my hair all 9n see what it looks like and to get it a more natural root color to then dye only my roots a 8n and slightly blending it down my hair to make it look more natural. I want to know if this is a good idea and what the chances are that it turns brassy and what to do to try and prevent this from happening. Instead of an 8n should I maybe go with an 8g or 8a to mix with the 9n doing down to my ends? Thanks for your help!

Ben is slick, fun and has the blowdry intuition. He just KNOWS what you want and how to achieve it. Not too much flick, not too much bounce, sexily tousled...he's an expert for a reason.
