After 50 years in the hair industry Daniel Galvin has become one the world’s most experienced and sought-after colourists. His influence over the hair and fashion industry is undeniable; from Princess Diana to The Beatles, his client list is nothing short of awesome.
Confessing to actually having found hair cutting slightly boring when he was younger, Daniel’s interest and responsibilities turned to colouring clients’ hair when he worked as a young apprentice in his father’s salon. He quickly developed an interest in colouring and the complete transformation that it could achieve. It was at this point that Daniel realised that he wanted to bring about the same revolutionary ideas with colour as Vidal Sassoon was doing in the world of haircutting. Taking advice from fashion designer and friend Zandra Rhodes in the late 1960s, Daniel then started experimenting with silk dyes to achieve vibrant hair so that he could ‘shock the world into colour’. He’s been doing so ever since.
His main salon near Bond Street is a staggering 9000sqft, has two full-time chefs, 120 staff and 27 hair colourists. It’s the biggest salon in Europe and boasts an interior to rival even the most polished of 5* hotels.
Alongside attracting distinguished celebrity customers, Daniel has had a cascade of defining moments in his career. From engineering a new highlighting method called ‘brickwork’ (now a worldwide technique) to being the first in his industry to receive an OBE from the Queen in 2006, it’s fair to say that Mr Galvin is what we might call a “groundbreaker”.
Throughout his career Daniel has continued to push the boundaries of hair colour, inventing new techniques and always striving to achieve stunning and innovative results. All we can say is thank goodness for Daniel Galvin and his ability to sort out our tatty tresses and despondent dos because without him the world would be a much duller place. After all, in the words of the great Mr Galvin, 'hair is a woman's ultimate beauty asset […] it’s the only thing that she never takes off.' If you’re yet to be “Galvinized”, you’re in for a treat.
