Forget counting sheep or knocking back a glass of warm milk. If you’re having trouble sleeping, Dr Guy Meadows is your man.

Dr Meadows set up The Sleep School to ease insomniacs into a good night’s slumber and has worked with over a thousand clients in one-to-one sessions.

Having studied UV physiology for 17 years (12 of which he devoted to sleep research and the prevention of sleeping disorders), it’s pretty safe to say that this guy knows his stuff. He’s become the leading figure in the area of chronic insomnia, pioneering the use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness treatment.

While studying from degree all the way to doctorate level, he worked in sleep research laboratories at the Royal Brompton and Charing Cross Hospital where he investigated the effects of sleep on the regulation of the human brain.

His passion for helping people get better sleep led to him writing a guide to the subject, 'The Sleep Book – How to sleep well every night'. In this, he explains why it’s important to accept your sleeping problems, guides you through building new sleeping patterns and helps you to balance a well-fulfilled day with a good night's rest.

He’s also the resident sleep doctor for ITV’s Daybreak show and was recently a sleep expert on Channel 4 show 'Bedtime Live'.

We honestly wonder how he gets any time to sleep himself!

  • ChristiNe Looseley asked: I have been told that CBT will be the answer to my severe insomnia but the nub of it seems to be that I must get up after 15 minutes of insomnia. This means I will be up many times each night as I wake frequently. What do you think? I can hardly face it!
