Personal training is a concept most would associate with the rich and famous, but one woman is on a mission to change that unattainable reality to bring tailored, personal fitness regimes to the masses. Her name is Jane Dowling.

Jane is the kind of bubbly, full of energy poster girl for fitness you need to encourage you to don your trainers and get moving after a long day at the office. With her London Bridge studio, Fitness for Everybody (the second power plate studio to launch in London) she hosts small group training sessions, one to one personal training and group classes which are both affordable and effective; she takes away the possibility of a gym membership that goes to waste by making sure you work hard and see results, even if you're only there for 20 minutes.

After 20 years in the game, Jane's main fitness device of choice is the power plate; she has just four machines in her sleek studio so that even when the class is full, you get the attention to need to make sure your technique is perfect and you're not slacking. She personally trains each of her young and spritely instructors so they are as knowledgeable as she is and it shows - while no class is the same, no class is ever below standard either. The music is uplifting, the studio is airy and Jane has you smiling as you squat by shouting 'The lower you go, the higher your butt!' at full volume.

Jane started out her career in clinical exercise, looking after GP referrals and specialising in cardiac rehabilitation - something she felt strongly about after she was involved in a car accident that left her wheelchair-bound for a short time. Her passion is intervention; from getting you back to fitness after cardiac surgery to turning your life around by helping you lose weight and get fit, Jane is the woman that many have turned to and successfully overcome their difficulties thanks to her hard work and determination.

Having trained many celebrities from Michael Douglas to fashion designer Roland Mouret, Jane even led Brooke Kinsella and her team to Machu Picchu in Peru in 2012 to raise money for the Ben Kinsella Trust. With a can-do attitude and the motivation that she's '46 and wearing Lycra', Jane is bringing 'fitness to everybody' in a way that's not only enjoyable, but in a way that works. You can't ask for more than that.

I have been visiting Jane's studio for years since trying out a power plate session and absolutely loving it. I'd done power plates elsewhere before but had always found it a lazy class, with instructors who barely kept an eye on you while you did the moves which didn't do much to motivate the non-fit me (and seemed unsafe!). Jane's studio is the total opposite and it's all thanks to her enthusiasm and knowledge. She tailors each session, motivates you, pushes you to your limits but is also a dream when it comes to dealing with injuries - she's helped me get back on my feet and taken the fear out of exercising by helping me train despite an old ankle injury of mine. Personal training at its best - I wouldn't go anywhere else in London.
