With a flair for art and design, Josh flirted with the idea of becoming a graphic designer before he found his wings in the hairdressing world. He got off to a flying start at Daniel Galvin, where he honed his craft for seven years before moving on to his father’s salon in St John’s Wood.

His salon has a friendly, local feel, which is no surprise given that some customers have been coming to the Altback outpost for near on fifty years. From older gentlemen to experimental teens, the salon’s staff are highly specialised and can cater for the diverse clientele coming through the doors daily (it’s open seven days a week; our kind of hairdressing venue). Josh himself is renowned for his ‘special occasion’ prowess. From bridal hair to simple updos to the latest extensions, Mr Altback’s practical approach and eye for detail make complex styles seem (and look) effortless. From initial consultation to the Big Day, he’ll listen intently; talk you through his approach and keep you cool, calm and feeling confident. He’s also a pioneering provider of cutting-edge Brazilian keratin treatments. Good hair days await.

  • Brittney collier asked: hello! I am wondering generally, what temperature do professional hair stylists use on their straightening irons? I have a quality iron, 200+ dollars. I use David Babaii hair polish. I am just wanting to know what temperature to set it on? someone told me 365 degrees was good for all hair types. 300 would be too low. after 365 the keratin in your hair begins to melt, I was told. I was blow drying my hair improperly for months and causing large amounts of shedding or hair falling out. I changed my routine based on an online article and it stopped! SO! I want to ask about straightening, because I think I'm breaking hair off or it's shedding a little more too, but I'm not so certain of what is "normal" or not. Again I have fine hair and I am looking to get the glossy, professional finish.

I've been a regular client of Josh's hair salon in NW8 for seven years. He did my bridal hair too and cuts and blow dries my hair. Thoroughly recommend he's the best!
