A pharmacist, cosmetologist and now the founder of a highly respected skincare range, Pedro Catala is an unrivalled expert in the world of beauty and botanics.

With a passion for plant-based and natural, active ingredients, Pedro followed his pharmacy degree in Spain with four years in the department of botany at the University of Valencia, before scoring a hat trick with a Master's in the Science and Technology of Cosmetics in Italy; today, he brings his extensive knowledge of the building blocks of skincare to London.

One chat with Pedro and you can really sense his attention to detail - he is not a fan of gimmicks or flash-in-the-pan skincare and is more interested in creating effective products with handpicked ingredients that make a visible difference to the health of your skin.

TWELVE, his carefully curated skincare range, is so-named because of the number of key ingredients that he uses to make the products work. With just six products in the offering, Pedro has pared back skincare to what your largest organ really needs; meaning there's nothing to irritate or interfere with your skin.

For this reason the products are available in various hospitals, including the private Harley Street hospital where Pedro works, and are given to patients post-chemotherapy and to treat skin concerns to bring it back to its healthy best. It's rare to find a brand that's so well informed in the health of the skin, inside and out - and the secret ingredient to TWELVE is most definitely this man.

HOW TO ACHIEVE RADIANT GLOWING SKIN IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS. The run up to the festive season can be chaotic with braving the crowds for shopping, Christmas parties and work deadlines. The lack of sleep , increased tension and fluctuations of temperature (normal during the cold season) lead to a dull complexion. This is the time of the year when we need to step up our beauty routine. It is all about keeping moisturised and being consistent. No matter how tired or busy we are we must find those five minutes in the morning and evening to reward our skin with our favourite all natural & organic products. Keeping faithful to this skincare philosophy the healthier we keep the condition of our skin, the better it will look How can you keep your skin merry and bright during this busy and cold period. - Refresh your face after cleansing with a non alcoholic toner, floral water or elixir to maintain a healthy skin’s pH. - Use a serum underneath your moisturiser in the morning and also at night as a hydration booster & for added glow & nourishment - Exfoliate your face three to four days before a big event always using a mild product. Don’t treat your skin like a pavement! It is essential to keep our hydrolipidic protective film on our skin intact. - Apply a more generous quantity of moisturiser to allow you to massage the skin until the cream is absorbed. It helps to activate the microcirculation of the superficial blood vessels and decongest the skin. - Extend the area where you normally apply the eye cream from just beyond the eyebrows to the middle of the cheeks. Eye creams are full of antioxidants and some contain great plant based peptides to avoid the degradation of collagen and ellastin. - Use your night cream twice to three times a week as a regenerating mask by applying a thicker layer than usual. Some people ask me what is the best product and I always say is the one they are currently using as long as: - suits their skin. - they can afford it to continue buying it. - are consistent in using it. So make the most of this festive season...give, share and moisturise  December 9th 2013 10:56:41

Ask Pedro Catala a Question

  • Miguel Mendosa asked: Dear Pedro, I am really glad there is a space to ask you a query. I have been really troubled by one of the issues that is slowly growing on me and ruining my mental peace. I am a 29yr old male and I have been working in the Corporate world since about 6yrs now. Lately(since 2yrs) there have been certain complaints against me, that I have been looking at certain women(and they feel upset about it), even though I had not been looking. When I evaluated myself, for about a year, I had come to a conclusion that it is the way my eyes are changing into. Some say it look innocent and big; but some say it looks big and threatening. Even though I just look at someone who passes(just a glance, which is natural when someone suddenly pass by you) they feel as though I was looking at them in a strange way. I feel that this could really affect my career and cause serious damage if not mended right away. Kindly suggest ways (not involving surgery) to change the way my eyes are. They look soo big, and many feel I am trying to engage with their eyes(even though I do not hold eye contact beyond 1 or 1.5sec). I cannot just shut my eyes and sit all my life to live a career in the corporate. Please let me know how I can forward a picture of the way my eyes look. Thank you so much for your time and patience. Best regards, Miguel M. mending.eyesright@gmail.com

Pedro is so passionate and knowledgeable about his field of study - I met him to find out about his skincare range as it's suitable for sensitive skin. His experience in botany is fascinating and he really understands beauty to the utmost detail - I could ask him about ingredients all day! What's more, the range lives up to expectations and a friend of mine who is currently having chemo said it made a huge difference to her skin.
