Our very own Kinvara Balfour, who took part in one of Russell’s workshops, gave us a great summary of his dynamic presence and all-guns-blazing fitness approach:

“He is affable, funny and sharp and he won’t let you sit on your arse for a second.”

Just what a girl needs in a trainer if you ask us. Russell is not, as you will discover, your average personal trainer. Founder of the Skinny Bitch Collective, or SBC as it’s known to its honed and healthy devotees, Russell dedicates his time to sculpting the female form. He’s basically our hero. But as the ever-wise Kinvara has warned, he does not go easy.

A session with Russell kicks off with a shot of SBC ‘magic potion’- a potent, energising mix containing coconut water and amino acids among other beneficial ingredients. Then it’s straight to work- from burpees to 200m sprints to dead lifts, you will be pushed to your limit and then…beyond it. We can promise however that you will be floating on a cloud of virtuosity afterwards and a killer bod will be your reward. Just ask Edie Campbell, Poppy Delevigne or pretty much any Vogue cover girl of the moment.

With a motto of ‘Come play with us’, SBC aims to improve women’s all-round health, fitness and wellbeing. The SBC blog is a mine of information with great recipes, lifestyle tips and fitness advice, and the team will even coach you online if you can’t make one of Russell’s sessions (reserve your place on the waiting list stat if you wish to attend- places go FAST). You don’t have to miss out if you’re a globetrotter either, as Russell is now running pop-up classes in LA, New York and Tokyo, as well as the odd summer jaunt to Ibiza. It’s playtime.

Workshops £30 per class for 50 mins.

Personal training fees range from £80-£120.

Find him at 55 Baker Street every Saturday at 5pm (check details online). Pop up classes at KX Life in Chelsea.

  • sophie longstaff asked: Hi Russell! I've been following SBC and MMT religiously for a while now and a a keen purchaser of Qnola- Congrats on all your success so far! Truly inspirational! I was just wondering what you're take on legumes and seaweed were as I seem to be obsessed with these, sometimes having roasted chickpeas and seaweed for breakfast as I am currently at boarding school and it's ten times better than what school serves us! Ahh is this a bad idea? Many thanks, Sophie. P.S Fingers crossed and I'll be moving to London later this year where I hope to attend an MMT Supper club (if you hold more that it is!)
