The advice we get from experts on our health at this time of year is to not make too many changes at once. Well, the same goes for our skin; many people start an overcomplicated routine that they can’t keep up with, is too expensive, or is so drastic it actually makes skin worse. Making small, but simple long-term changes to your beauty regime can reap amazing rewards. Here are 5 ways to revive and keep skin balanced throughout 2015.
1. Cleanse, cleanse, cleanse
Many dermatologists cite cleansing as being more important than moisturizing. It is absolutely vital you remove the day’s debris from your skin to clear away grime and bacteria. If your skin is dry, try a balm such as Espa’s Nourishing Cleansing Balm, for normal skin try a wash-off cleanser such as Aesop Fabulous Face Cleanser, for oily, Dr Sebagh’s Breakout Foaming Cleanser, or for sensitive skin Ren’s Evercalm Gentle Cleansing Milk.
2. Achieving balance
Skin can be very temperamental at this time of year, with breakouts and dryness occurring often at once and harsh weather conditions making fine lines more pronounced. Whatever your issue, don’t try to fix it with extreme measures…your aim is to bring skin back into balance. If you have spots do not over cleanse, if you have dry skin do suffocate skin with ridiculous amounts of moisturiser. If you’re in any doubt use Aurelia’s Probiotic skincare range which is gentle yet effective.
3. Exfoliate weekly
Nothing changes the look of skin as quickly as exfoliation, which removes dead skin cells, brightens skin and allows the products you use to penetrate better. The rules of exfoliation are not to over do it - once or twice a week is fine. Use a product that has round granular beads such as Sisley’s Buff and Wash facial Gel which brightens skin without scratching or pads that contain Glycolic such as Malin +Goetz 10% Glycolic acid pads.
4. Nourish your skin
You only get one skin – treat it well and feed it like a baby. If you don’t already, it is worth incorporating a facial oil into your skincare regime. They nourish and plump skin from deep down and contrary to popular belief won’t make skin more oily. Decleor’s Aromessence Ylang Ylang Super Serum is an amazing all-round reviver for all skin types.
5. Drink more water
Anyone that says drinking water doesn’t change your skin is lying. 8 glasses a day is the amount nutritional expert Jenna Zoe recommends for cleaning the blood and flushing out toxins which all leads to clearer skin and brighter eyes.
