A hot wax mask and a de-stressing massage add up to a serious dose of escapism in South West London

Call me a wild child, but I like nothing better than a Friday night curled up with a good book, Graham Norton and a healthy slathering of my Eve Lom face mask. So when I received an invitation to try the Eve Lom Signature Facial at B London Boutique, I set Graham Norton on Sky + and braced myself for some serious pampering.

A facial that provides a dose of much-needed relaxation for body and mind as well as stressed and tired skin, the most interesting aspect of this treatment is definitely the hot wax mask. Created to awaken sallow, congested skin, the wax is smoothed on and left to work for a few minutes to dry. As it hardens, I have to be honest, it feels pretty strange, (think Man in the Iron Mask, sadly without Leonardo DiCaprio). The best part for me though, was the de-stressing massage which effectively untied my tough shoulder knots and relieved the tension I was carrying in my neck after a long day hunched in front of my computer.

The Eve Lom products were amazing and were particularly good for deeply moisturising and plumping up my dry skin. The therapists also do their best to avoid messing up your eye makeup too, a fact that I was extremely grateful for during my blissful trance down Barnes High Street afterwards.

Don’t expect the décor of a spa in this quirky London boutique - it’s more cosy than opulent. The treatment rooms are quietly tucked away upstairs, away from the colourful selection of holiday bags, clothes and accessories downstairs. This, combined with the intense feeling of relaxation post-treatment, and you could be fooled into thinking you were in the South Pacific, rather than South West London.

So how did my skin feel afterwards? Glowing? Yes. Hydrated? Yes. But smoother? Hmmm… despite the extractions and the mask, I did find that my skin was just as bumpy as before. Don’t get me wrong, it was extremely relaxing, but it’s just probably best suited for skin that needs a boost of radiance, rather than a way to bust your breakouts.
