Review: Hari's Hair & Beauty

5 stars

You would think that with its A-list clientele and Chelsea postcode, pretentiousness would come as standard at Hari’s. But no, I was pleasantly surprised by its informality and friendliness. Whether you’re looking for a new hair style, facial, waxing, a brow reshape, nail overhaul or trip to the Bun Bar, it has a fantastic reputation as one of the best one-stop shops for hair and beauty. I was curious to see whether the loyal following and long waiting lists were justified.

Although the salon was incredibly busy, I was warmly greeted at the front desk and given clear instructions on where to perch myself for my bespoke Valmont facial (from £125) from Debbie Thomas, aka the skin queen. I was handed a questionnaire to complete in the waiting room and every blocked pore and incipient wrinkle were identified courtesy of a few CSI-type photos (no one looks good in these). I was then given a thorough briefing on what to expect: a largely results-driven facial involving modern technologies (known as a "stage 3" facial) rather than one of the more relaxing "stage 1" facials I'm used to. My face was massaged, scrubbed and polished, then came red light therapy, a treatment designed to strengthen the skin and stimulate collagen production.

Then came a fantastic facial massage and thorough aftercare advice suggesting that I use an SPF cream for a few days and after a week try a vitamin C cream to treat pigmentation as well as a daily enzyme peel to clear pores.

This facial is good if you want visible results: my skin has been smoother, my pores unclogged and my complexion much brighter. The salon had a practical, efficient and informal vibe which I loved, but if you're looking for panpipe music, hushed voices and aromatherapy candles, look elsewhere. Hari’s really is something special. I’m keen to return as soon as I can, so there's another convert to add to the waiting list.

Top tip Don't have this facial the day before a special event. Allow a few days for your skin to calm down.
