Daniel Galvin is a stylish haven in Central London that makes everyone look absolutely fabulous
Located on stylish George Street near Marylebone, I knew that I was in for an experience as soon as I crossed a threshold that said five-star hotel more than hair salon. I was hit by a palpable atmosphere of coolness but also an informality and friendliness that I wouldn’t have expected considering the clientele, which includes the fabulously coiffed heads of Adele, The Saturdays and The Wanted.
Spaced out across two floors, I was instantly struck by the light, airy and modern decor. That and the fact that the staff looked as if they'd just jumped out of a GQ fashion spread. However, I couldn't hate them too much as they were also friendly and unintimidating. And while the place was buzzing and close to full capacity, waiting times were minimal and the atmosphere was hassle-free.
James Galvin – Daniel Galvin's youngest son – was my stylist and considering his genes, I was sure that I was in good hands. Professional, immensely knowledgable and equipped with a sleeve of impressive tattoos, I felt pretty sure that I'd also gain a few much-needed cool points. After carefully considering the state of my hair, James suggested how to improve its condition (and rectify the mistakes of a previous scissor-happy stylist), even persuading me to have a few inches taken off the length for the first time in at least eight years. Never pushy and always explaining how it would benefit my hair in the long run, it turned out that he was right and the results were nothing short of fabulous. As was apparent at the first hair wash afterwards, the thickness and general health of my frazzled locks has improved vastly.
A cut and blowdry from James, a style director, is a bit on the pricey side. However, the more junior members of the Daniel Galvin team are more affordable (a cut and blowdry from a stylist costs from £64). The salon has a reputation for being one of the best places to go for colour treatments and offers anything from a tint (from £82) to a full head of highlights (from £164). Also offered are permanent blowdries, hair extensions (which you’d be hard-pressed to tell from real hair) and wedding hair. If budget is an issue, keep an eye out for special offers on the website (www.danielgalvin.com). If you want your hair snipped, blow-dried, coloured, preened and primped by a top industry expert, this salon really is worth a visit.
