Ayesha Muttucumaru tests out the department store's beauty talents
My bank balance will tell you, I don’t exactly need another reason to go to House of Fraser more often than I already do. However, courtesy of their selection of seven elegant treatment rooms in their Oxford Street store, I may have just found one.
Located on the ground floor behind the shoe section, you can choose from a menu of great face and body treatments from GTG faves Dr Murad, Shiseido and Decleor, to get preened and bikini prepped before picking up a killer pair of heels on your way out. Sounded like a winning combination to me before I even got there.
I was booked in for the Shiseido Yutaka Beauty Ritual and was warmly greeted by my beauty therapist and brand specialist Victoria Reeve at the Shiseido beauty counter. The first step was a skin touch analysis consultation using a high tech computer which measured my skin’s oil and moisture levels and analysed how well I was ageing – yikes!
I was slightly worried about what Victoria might find but it was incredibly interesting to see the results and the state of my vitamin D-starved skin. Victoria was extremely thorough and as well as talking me through my results and what she planned to do during the treatment, she gave me some great recommendations as to how I could improve my skincare routine going forward in order to rectify any areas of concern.
I was then led through to the treatment rooms downstairs. I instantly felt relaxed upon entering mine and spent the next hour in a state of complete, almost trance-like relaxation. The range of anti-ageing lotions and potions used on me were from Shiseido’s premium Future Solution LX line and also included a lifting mask and anti-ageing massage cream that were exclusive to the treatment. What particularly stood out for me though was the comprehensive face, neck and arm massage which included an effective combination of deep effleurage movements to increase skin’s resilience to ageing, techniques to increase circulation and also more forceful, staccato movements to lift and plump.
The whole experience was really luxurious and I left with skin that felt and looked super hydrated, glowing and energised. The only thing that I can fault is that I would have liked to have had a larger space outside of the treatment rooms themselves, with a closed off area available where we could have done the skin touch analysis beforehand for a little extra privacy. That being said I will certainly be returning, especially due to the great value for money.
A permanent fixture on the menu, you pay £50 to secure the booking and then you have the option to redeem this against the purchase of two or more skincare products on the day. A fantastic gift idea for a lucky mum or two out there... or for you instead (we won’t judge).
