We try the yoga facial that 'lifts' the skin and gives you your glow back

Alex Harrison headed over to The Decléor flagship day spa to test out their latest, yoga-inspired skin lifting facial treatment that promises to shape the face and boost radiance. Plus, GTG readers can save an exclusive 20% off...

Where are we?

The Decléor Flagship Boutique & Day Spa, Westbourne Grove.

The beautiful flagship day spa nestled away in Notting Hill is a real pleasure to visit, even just for a browse. It’s clean, calm and tranquil, with all retail products laid out for customers to test out and with staff armed with a wealth of knowledge on each and every product. The boutique consists of two express treatment rooms upstairs and two full treatment rooms downstairs, as well as a state of the art mirror in the main shop that can provide a recording of your therapist performing specific facial massage techniques on your face for you to take home and replicate yourself.

What are we having?

The new Facial Lift Yoga treatment, £80 for 1 hour 15 minutes.

This treatment takes inspiration from the yin and yang elements of Vinyasa Flow Yoga to significantly improve skin radiance and luminosity, improve the shape and definition of the face and give a lifted appearance to the cheekbones and eyelids.

My therapist Lauren explained each element of the treatment in full to me before we started, detailing the techniques she would be using and what they actually do to help have a notable impact on the skin.

What’s it like?

The treatment starts with the signature Decléor 'back diagnostic' (essentially, a quick back massage where they apply pressure to specific reflex points), where Lauren advised me that I had some inflammation around my kidneys that was giving off signs of dehydration (must remember my 2 litres a day!). The treatment then proceeded with a deep cleanse and exfoliation using products from the Prolagéne Lift Range, which incorporate a blend of Iris and two types of lavender essential oils to promote a smooth, firm and luminous complexion. The products are massaged in using rapid Kobido movements (a Japanese technique which supposedly lifts the skin) to help stimulate the deeper skin tissue.

This was then followed by the thermal mask, which is what makes this treatment unique. Lauren explained that the mask would be placed over the entire face - including the eyes and the lips - where it will begin to heat up, then cool down in order to be lifted away with ease. The heat in the mask is meant to loosen up the muscle fibres, moulding to the facial contours, before cooling and setting, contracting your skin to sculpt and lift. All sounds very blissful, but I would advise that this section is not for the fainthearted, nor those prone to claustrophobia...

The mask was applied and after about three minutes I could feel the formula beginning to warm up on my skin as the thermal properties got to work. After about 15 minutes I started to become very aware that the mask had set over my face, and for some this could be a bit uncomfortable - it requires controlled breathing as your mouth is completely covered. Once the mask had completely set it was then lifted from my face (the freedom is an instant relief!) and a light moisturiser and eye cream was applied to finish off the treatment.

The results

This has got to be one of the best facials I have had to date – the whole experience was extremely relaxing and the results afterwards were the best I have seen. For someone like me who is prone to a bit of a shiny face, it’s hard to find a facial where you don’t leave looking like an oil slick. This is where I feel Decléor outshines the rest; my skin felt so smooth and soft, and my t-zone was completely oil free, yet still felt nourished and hydrated. I mentioned this to Lauren who explained that this was because the treatment is designed to ensure the products are absorbed into the skin as opposed to sitting on top, which is what can lead to a shiny face at the end of a lot of traditional facials which involve layers and layers of products. As for the shaping and lifting, one treatment wasn't enough for me to see any visible difference - the end result was much more about the look and feel of my skin tone and texture.

Best of all, to my surprise I woke up the next morning to a blemish-free face. I had long accepted that the pitfall of a good facial was a couple of blemishes in the following days as your skin ‘purges’ the toxins and general grime after a good clean. However if anything I woke up with a clearer complexion, and the softest skin I have ever had. A massive thumbs up from me.
