When you’ve spent time and money getting your eyelash extensions perfectly poaced, it’s imperative to use an eye makeup remover that is lash extension safe so you don’t ruin all that hard work.

“Using the wrong products or makeup removal technique can lead to premature shedding, dirt buildup which weakens the adhesive, or even eye irritation,” says lash and brow expert Monika Ludwiczak, Co-Founder of Everlasting Brows and Elleebana Europe – who are known for their 20 minute lash lift. 

So what should you be looking for? “Avoid oil-based or heavy cream cleansers, as they can break down the lash adhesive,” advises Ludwiczak. She recommends opting for lightweight, oil-free makeup removers or, ideally, looking for a makeup remover specifically designed for lash extensions. Your lash extension expert may have one that they recommend.

In terms of how you use makeup remover on your lashes, it’s also key that you think about your technique. As you can imagine, aggressively wiping away makeup is not good for your eyelash extensions, or your natural lashes for that matter. Follow Ludwiczak’s top tips for maximum efficiency with minimum damage:

• “Apply your chosen makeup remover to your fingertips or a lint-free cloth (a cleansing muslin works well), and work the cleanser onto the eye and lash area using small, circular motions. This helps break down the makeup.”

• “Never use cotton pads or makeup wipes as the fibres can get caught in the extensions and cause damage.”

• “Wipe away the makeup remover with a lint-free cloth or rinse off with lukewarm water, ensuring no cleansing residue is left behind.”

• “Using a clean, lint-free towel, gently pat your lashes dry. Never rub them.”

• “Once your lashes are completely dry, use a clean spool brush to fluff and separate them.”
