Dirtea Pure Essentials Set, from £36

“If you take creatine (for brain and muscle health) and collagen (for skin and joints), you need to know about functional mushroom disrupter brand Dirtea’s new duo. It comes with a hefty subscription discount – £36 per month for the pair as opposed to £51 for a one-off – making this possibly the most affordable way to take the high quality health powders of the moment. They are flavourless, filler-free and third party tested to show they actually contain what they say they do. The marine collagen 5g daily dose is slightly lower than the recommended 8-10g, however, you get a lovely clear jar and a scoop free when you subscribe.”

Eyeam Magnesium Bi-Phase Body Spray, £49

“Magnesium is one mineral that many women are deficient in and the skin is a highly effective way of absorbing it (they say the more it tingles the more you need it). This bi-phase body serum, from the founder of the Organic Pharmacy Margo Marrone and daughter Roxy, elevates transdermal magnesium to a glorious body treatment with citrus-scented botanicals for glow. It calms body acne and bumpy skin, delivering a respectable 45mg of magnesium in six sprays and looking cool enough to please both Gen Zs and their mums. For muscle recovery and before bed, it’s a delight.”

Sara Miller Zen and Restful Sleep Pouch, £28

“With World Sleep Day and Mother’s Day both coming up, this insomniac parent would like to point her children in the direction of this velvety sleep pouch from homeware designer Sara Miller, containing a beautiful lavender-filled eye mask, a pillow spray that smells of peonies rather than overwhelming of herbs that scream ‘you WILL sleep!’ and non-cheesy affirmation cards adorned with Miller’s trademark bird designs. The pouch is the perfect makeup bag size, and for my money (or with any luck my children’s money) it’s great value, at £28.”

F+nction Calm Adaptogenic Cacao, £32.99

“A healthy hot chocolate is my way of satisfying my post-supper sweet tooth and Calm adaptogenic cacao is my current favourite because it also helps me sleep. At 62 calories, it combines 10g marine collagen (collagen before bed can help slumber thanks to the somnolent amino acid glycine) with yet more glycine as well as calming adaptogens such as ashwagandha, L-theanine, reishi mushroom extract and chamomile. And the 11g protein helps keep my blood sugar stable overnight too, meaning less chance of small-hours waking.”

Chilly’s Series 3 Water Bottle, from £25

“If you are as water bottle obsessed as I am then you need know that Chilly’s has upgraded their classic one. There are eight new colours, a mix of spring pastels and black, silver and cargo green. There are design improvements too – the rim has an antimicrobial coating to prevent gunk building up and improved insulation keeps hot drinks hotter and cold drinks cold for longer. It comes in three sizes but the small (350ml) is perfect for my handbag.”

Lustre Goglow Advanced LED Patches, were £150 now £120

“These rechargeable under-eye LED masks have impressive tech credentials. Each patch contains 24 LED diodes (a decent amount for a small area), and they work on two wavelengths – red to smooth wrinkles and boost collagen and blue which kills acne-causing bacteria but also works to depuff. They are simple to use: attach the battery (it looks like an Airpod) on the front, stick three adhesive dots to the underside (this ensures a flush fit, which is crucial for maximising results), apply to clean dry skin, press the button and let the three minute cycle run its course. You need to use them at least four times a week to see results, but results you will see.”

Rituals The Ritual of Seshen Scented Candle, was £33 now £26.40

“Whenever friends ask me where to buy affordable but decent candles, I send them to Rituals. The throw (how far the fragrance travels) is exceptional, they look gorgeous and they smell far more expensive than they are. Seshen (lotus flower in Egyptian) is inspired by the idea of rebirth and the sun and it’s everything you want a candle to smell like at this time of year – light, floral and uplifting. There’s also a shower foam, body gel and floating candle in the collection but it’s all limited edition so be quick!”

Senspa Detox and Purify Epsom Bath Salts, were £10 now £6.66

“I have been sprinkling a handful of these magnesium and Epsom salts into my tub to prep for a good night’s sleep, they’ve been going in my daughters’ baths to help soothe tired legs from lots of sport (plus they love the herbal spa-like scent) and my husband has been using them to de-stress after a long day. They don’t leave a crust round the bath once the water has drained away as so many others do – result.”

INGEBORG VAN LOTRINGEN

Our contributing beauty editor has an unusual way to cut down on the washing up

Sans Self-Cleaning Water Bottle, £79.99

“One problem I have with sipping water from a reusable bottle is that it’s much harder to clean than a glass – god knows how many bacteria build up in there. So I’m excited to discover there’s such a thing as this self-cleaning water bottle, which uses built-in UV-C radiation to eliminate grossness not just from the insides of the bottle but the water as well. Just charge and press the button to eliminate 99.9% of bad bacteria (think E-coli) and other bio-contaminants in three minutes.”

Peep Club Lid and Lash Spray, £8.50

“Hypochlorous acid is an improbably gentle and soothing ingredient (given its scary name and family relation to chlorine) that doctors use to wipe out bacteria and viruses, while hydrating and calming skin. Cool indie eye-health brand Peep Club has spotted its potential for calming dry eye, blepharitis and other inflamed eye conditions with this preservative-free mist that will take down redness, irritation and discomfort in even the most sensitive eyes. It cleared my eye infection so I’m sold.”

Cetaphil Advanced Defense Serum, was £26.50 now £19.87

“A blend of different antioxidants in a hydrating, non-irritating base is a skincare basic any dermatologist would recommend to shield skin from daily assaults – and this fresh, unscented serum with green tea extract, vitamin E and niacinamide suits any skin. While vitamin C is great (especially as an adjunct to UV protection), a combo of antioxidants actually gives more ‘broad-spectrum’ protection against all kinds of environmental nasties – worth keeping in mind.”

SHOP

Refy Skin Base, £30

“This is dubbed an ‘intuitive complexion essential’ – not a clue what that means but I see a sheer tinted moisturiser that melts into skin and leaves it super-glowy in a hydrated, not oily way. There is no hint of powder in the formulation (great), and the 18 shades leave skin feeling comfy all day. Exactly the kind of under-the-radar complexion booster I like.”

ISLA HUFFADINE

For just £4, our content coordinator is enjoying sweet dreams

Aroma Zone Sleep Essential Oil, £4.50

“After a recent trip to New Zealand, I’ve struggled to get my sleep routine back on track – but this unassuming organic oil (from a French brand recently launched in the UK) has helped. The blend of six essential oils creates a calming mix that promotes relaxation and helps ease my mind. I usually find oils a faff – mixing them into creams or worrying about stained pillows – but the roll-on application is easy to swipe over your pulse points. It’s a travel-friendly size and a bargain at £4.50.”

SHOP

Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa 91 Hair and Body Perfume Mist, was £25 now £17.50

“The cult-favourite brand has a new scent in its mist lineup, this time with a slightly more mature feel. Pink rose is the main fragrance note, though not in the way you’d traditionally expect – blending with passionfruit and caramel for a sweet, fruity twist. It’s lightweight and uplifting – perfect for the transition into spring. While mists don’t last as long as perfumes, the more affordable price reflects that. Fun fact: I didn’t realise the brand’s signature name, cheirosa, translates from Portuguese as “smelling incredibly delicious”. How apt.”

And Honey Melty Moist Repair Treatment, £15.99

“We all know K-beauty, but the latest trend landing at Boots is J-beauty – Japanese beauty. This rich argan oil and honey-infused hair treatment is so authentic that there are no English instructions – luckily it’s simple to use. After shampooing, work a few pumps through the mid lengths and ends of your hair, leave for a few minutes and rinse. The affordable price and generous bottle mean you can slather it on. My brush also pulled through easily afterwards, making it a great option for knot-prone hair, including kids’.”

Yves Saint Laurent Lovenude Lip Blusher, £40

“I’d give anything to be half as cool as Dua Lipa, but wearing her latest tinted lip balm hybrid will have to do. Designed to mimic the soft, diffused look of lip blushing, the 10 buildable nude shades deliver a natural blurred finish with the hydrating benefits of a balm. It’s perfect if traditional lipstick feels too bold, yet you still want a subtle flush of colour. Though fairly pricey, it lasts long and the luxe packaging makes it feel chic to pull from your handbag.”
