Halle Berry has launched a health and wellbeing site to rival Goop

The concept of Hallewood sounds very familiar in our wellbeing obsessed world, but what is Halle Berry doing differently to Gwyneth and co? Here’s what we know so far about Hallewood…
Actresses turning health, beauty and fitness gurus is nothing new- from Cameron Diaz’ Body Book to Kate Hudson’s Fabletics and even Meghan Markle’s now closed lifestyle website The Tig, stars sharing their stance on wellness is nothing new. Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop is clearly the big hitter in this department- the site’s coverage of many a “health” topic may be much derided (*insert quip about jade eggs and vaginal steaming here*), but it remains phenomenally successful, with 788k Instagram followers, an expansive roster of high profile brand partnerships (Stella McCartney for one) and even a festival programme launched to take its often controversial discussions on everything from sex to spirituality from page to panel.
The latest to join the ranks of star spangled wellness is Oscar winning actress Halle Berry, and while the seemingly obligatory bone broth is ever present, we’re picking up slightly more grit than gloss with the yet-to-launch Hallewood. First things first, Halle’s backstory is one of overcoming adversity- from surviving domestic violence to recovering after falling into a coma due to undiagnosed diabetes, the 51 year old has used fitness, and martial arts in particular, to develop inner and outer strength that goes far beyond looking good in a bikini (“my trainer has taught me boxing, self-defense and much more. Not only am I in the best shape of my life, but I can actually defend myself and most importantly... my children! As a woman there is nothing more empowering.”).
While Halle’s gymnast background and natural athleticism clearly helps in the fitness stakes, her now famous #FitnessFriday Instagram posts are encouraging rather than alienating or unattainable (“you don’t need a fancy gym to get started - all you need is a living room, a patio, a kitchen floor, a driveway or a backyard, and a water bottle”). Alongside fitness Hallewood will also bring its audience “curated content” on subjects from beauty to family to consciousness and style, and while we’ll have to sign up and see for detail, we live in hope that Halle’s influence will continue with the positive, practical vibe of her Friday fitness posts. The shadow boxing workout
It’s #FitnessFriday once again. Today I’m gonna share with you a few exercises that I do that you can do at home. Over the years I have enjoyed learning to box and shadow box as a way of mixing up my workout regime. The first exercise is shadow boxing with a sprawl. It’s good for the upper body, core and lungs. It’s also low impact and calorie burning. The second exercise is shadow boxing with a sit up. This is also a nice way to build upper body strength and the core! And trust me those punches get heavy after a while. If you wanna get extra with it you can add light weights. If you don’t have weights grab water bottles or even cans of soup. It works, I promise you! I do 10 to 20 reps of each one with a minimum of 10 rounds. However you can modify the reps and rounds based on your fitness level. The simple but punishing plank
It’s #FitnessFriday. You asked how to get started? It’s simple... you just decide to start! You decide today that you are worth it! Trust me, I know it’s hard to focus up and dedicate time to working out each day, but with 24 hours in a day you can surely take ONE and dedicate it to YOU! You don’t need a fancy gym to get started - all you need is a living room, a patio, a kitchen floor, a driveway or a backyard, and a water bottle. This simple exercise is called a plank pull. This starts to strengthen your core, and a strong core has been key to my workouts. Each week until the launch of hallewood I’m going to pick a question that you ask and Peter and I will do our best to answer. First, we were asked: if you have weight to lose, is it better to lose weight before you start working out? Peter says it’s best do them simultaneously. You can start by walking each day or doing jumping jacks for cardio, while using very light weights, or again holding water bottles in each hand if you don’t have weights. The 'buddy' blast
Thank God it’s #FitnessFriday. Today is all about the couple workout. It’s often easier to workout with a partner. A partner holds you accountable so you won’t quit halfway through. A partner can spot you so you don’t injure yourself, but most of all, working out with a partner just makes it all more fun! Here are two simple exercises you and your boo can do at home. It’s a plank with a squat and each person gets a workout at the same time. Squats for butt and legs and plank for core and upper body. Do 20 reps for 10 sets. This #FitnessFriday is dedicated to the importance of stretching! After I work out, it’s important for me to stretch and lengthen. Fitness is not just about running, lifting and punching. For me, being athletic and super fit is also about being still, stretching and breathing. Including stretching in my fitness program helps my muscles stay long, limber, improves my mobility and range of motion and, most importantly, helps me avoid injuries. This is one of my favorite #yoga poses, the shoulder stand, that stretches my lower spine and legs. I feel 2 inches taller after this stretch! Some people use yoga poses to manage stress, increase circulation, for medication, recovery, better sleep, and mobility just to name a few. The 'never take a raincheck' workout
It’s #FitnessFriday and today Peter and I share with you our Tuff Tire Thursday workout and we bring it every Thursday rain or shine! We had a workout planned and it rained and we decided to stick with our plan. I have to say I felt so good that we didn’t let the rain defeat us. WE DID IT ANYWAY! So today I challenge you to do it anyway. No matter what comes up that threatened to derail your fitness plan, tell yourself “I win” and do it ANYWAY! For this workout we pulled out this ginormous tire and got busy. Finding an old used tractor tire is relatively easy. On my IG Stories and Fitness Highlight, you'll find 7 exercises that will give you a full body workout. They will challenge your overall body strength, core and even cardio.
