VICTORIA WOODHALL

Pilates fan? Our editorial director has a some gorgeous new gear for you

Yogi Bare Pilates mats and accessories, from £12.50

“My favourite grippy yoga mat, the Yogi Bare Evergrip Paws, now has an equally grippy Pilates sister. The Yogi Bare Pilates Arch Mat, £69.99, is made with the impeccable eco creds for which this lovely female-founded company is known. It’s part of a new Pilates range featuring grippy socks, hand weights, ankle weights, resistance bands, a ball and ring; all in gorgeous milk and chocolate tones. The mat is perfect for yoga too if you are not super tall – plus it’s a bit cheaper than a classic yoga mat.”

Hilo Band, £209.99

“This is one wearable that’s definitely worth the outlay. The Hilo is a continuous blood pressure monitor that’s smaller than a watch – and could just save your life. High blood pressure has no symptoms yet it’s the most important risk factor for cardiovascular disease, which is the biggest killer of women, much more so than cancer. Why wait until a GP check-up to find out if you’re at risk? The strap gives you several readings a day via an app, and it’s interesting and even fun to note which activities send (and keep) your blood pressure high, so you can make changes to bring it down. Alcohol is a big driver, as I noticed! It can also give early warning signs of pre-eclampsia, the pregnancy high blood pressure condition .”

This Works Own Time EDP, from £10 for 5ml

“If you struggle to wind down at night, this woody and peppery eau de parfum, is here to give you some olfactory Valium. It sets you up for sleep, ideally if you spritz it between 6pm and 10pm, by hacking your nervous system with calming terpenes (similar to those in cannabis but without the high-making THC). It’s backed by neuroscience to ease you into the parasympathetic rest and digest state. But first and foremost it’s a lasting, sophisticated, even sexy fragrance that you’ll want to wear. It reminded me of Le Labo Matcha. I wear it all day, because there’s a ‘bonus’ powdery fragrance note activated by daylight, that gives you a soft hug whenever you need it.”

Feel Iceland Amino Marine Collagen, from £29

“Female-founded Feel Iceland have been making marine collagen since 2014, way before it was trendy, and now this Nordic women’s skin and joints secret has landed in the UK to bring something new to the crowded collagen market. It’s a finely-milled powder (the first I’ve found with no aftertaste) that blends easily into cooking and drinks. Unlike most marine collagen brands, which derive their peptides from farmed fish, this comes from wild-caught Atlantic cod and haddock destined for the food industry and uses the discarded skins. It’s third-party tested for heavy metals and microorganisms.”

KERRY POTTER

Our deputy editor discovers unexpected January joy (yes, really)

Glimmers by Nadia Narain and Katia Narain Phillips, £13.59

“Subtitled ‘Tiny Moments to Transform Your Life’, this urges us to lean into glimmers – slivers of everyday joy, such as the sun peeking through the clouds. They’re the opposite of triggers, and help us feel present and safe. It’s the third book from London-based sisters Nadia and Katia, who know their wellbeing onions – Nadia is Kate Moss’s yoga teacher, Katia a somatic practitioner. Their advice is always pleasingly practical and rooted in the real world. It makes for an uplifting new year read.”

Under Armour Infinity 2.0 High Sports Bra, £55

“I’m very fussy about sports bras but Under Armour know their stuff and this one, which comes in five colours, ticks every box. It’s secure enough for high impact long runs. It fastens at the back so no contortions needed to get it on, you can wear the adjustable straps straight or crossback, and the moulded pads are seamless and ultra-comfortable. It takes some time to work out the (impressively inclusive) sizing but once you do, you won’t look back.”

SHOP

Dillon Organic Chicory Fibre Syrup, £8.49

“As a honey fiend who dumps far too much on my Greek yoghurt at breakfast, this low-sugar alternative caught my eye. Made from chicory fibre, it has a whopping 90% less sugar than granulated sugar, contains no nasties and is a gut-friendly prebiotic. It’s from a newish British indie food brand created after the founder struggled with an autoimmune condition linked to poor metabolic heath. They also do UPF-free, low-carb bread and bagels. Taste-wise, it has less depth than honey but still hits the spot.”

Vuori Restore Oversized Hoodie, £120

“This is exactly the workout hoodie you want in chilly January. From luxe Californian brand Vuori, it’s ridiculously cosy and warm, with a soft fleecy lining and double-layer hood. Plus there are no pesky drawstrings to get caught when I’m lifting weights. Expensive, yes, but the quality shines through. I’m not taking it off all month.”

SJ CORFIELD-SMITH

Our beauty director has found the holy grail – wellbeing cookies!

Doughlicious Chocolate Chip and Banana Chunky Oat Cookie Dough Skillet with Plant-Based Collagen Support, £5.50

“A delicious gluten-free dessert that comes with a serving of collagen? Not only a great idea, but the sort of wellness I can get on board with. Doughlicious make gluten-free cookie dough based puddings and their Chocolate Chip & Gelato Bites, £4.50, are already part of my weekly food shop. This skillet – designed to be shared between four – can be warmed through in the microwave and is 1.4 per cent plant-based collagen. While I wouldn’t advocate swerving your usual daily  collagen supplement in favour of this, hurray for functional pudding!”

Shokz Openswim Pro Sport Headphones, £135

“I’ve swum my entire life and the idea of being able to listen to music as I pace up and down is the absolute dream. The waterproof earphones I’ve tried in the past have proved disappointing but these are a game-changer. They loop round the back of your head (I find over a swimming cap is more comfortable) and the sound comes out of two speakers that sit just in front of your ear. The sound quality is identical to usual in-ear earphones. The first time I used them I did get them slightly tangled with my goggles, but after a few uses I soon got the hang of the placement and they stayed in place as I got my lengths done. A dream come true.”

Silva Seek 450 Recharge Head Lamp, £39.99

“Getting outside at this time of year – whether for a walk or run –  is tricky when it’s so often dark. Hello handy head lamp. Far less bulky and cumbersome than most, it also has an integrated clip so if you don’t want to wear it round your head like a miner you can clip it onto your coat or bag strap. It only weighs 70g so if you wear it when running it’s not making things any harder, and it has three light intensities. It’s also water resistant, should it also start to rain. But if that does happen, I’d see that as a sign to head home and put your feet up instead!”

Kip and Glow Nose Strips, £20 for 30 strips

“Hello, my name is SJ and I sleep with my mouth open and snore (apparently), so 2026 is the year I’m going to try mouth taping. However, in the meantime I’ve been using these nose strips – which have totally stopped my snoring. They’re very sticky – you apply one onto clean, dry skin across the bridge of your nose, and it tugs your nostrils open wider so you can breathe more easily. They stay on all night, in fact you have to peel them off gently and slowly in the morning. They come in a handy tin, which now lives on my bedside table.”

ISLA HUFFADINE

Our content coordinator has found a clever collagen/mushroom hybrid

Revive Collagen Concentration and Clarity Functional Mushroom and Adaptogen Blend, £46.99 for 14 sachets

“We already know collagen benefits skin, hair and nails, but this innovative blend takes things a step further. The first of its kind, it delivers 6000mg of type one marine collagen combined with functional mushrooms and adaptogens to support brain health and concentration. Ingredients such as Lion’s Mane, reishi mushrooms and ashwagandha help enhance focus while promoting a sense of calm. Enjoy straight from the sachet or mixed into your favourite drink – the tasty apple flavour and ready-to-drink gel format make it easy to take on the go. It’s a great caffeine-free morning option or convenient pick-me-up to beat the afternoon slump.”

Seoul Tonic Korean Pear and Apple Cider Vinegar Recovery Drink, £40 for 12 pouches

“There’s plenty of hype around pre-drink hangover fixes, but I’m usually too caught up in the moment to remember them. This clever recovery drink is designed for the day after, blending Korean pear, apple cider vinegar and electrolytes into a surprisingly palatable mix that helps rehydrate and boost energy, without that sharp vinegar tang. Developed in South Korea with input from local pear farmers, it’s inspired by a traditional ritual and Gordon Ramsay’s a fan – the brand won his Australian Food Stars show. While it won’t magically erase the effects of a mega night out, it definitely speeds up recovery.”

Sunday Minute Collegiate Sweatshirt, £63

“I love being comfy as much as anyone, but that doesn’t mean I want to sacrifice style. This chic athleisure brand nails the perfect balance between practicality and aesthetic appeal. I’ve practically lived in their tracksuit over the holidays — comfy enough for sofa lounging, yet equally cosy for a winter stroll. The slim fit makes layering easy without leaving you looking like a marshmallow; just add a trench and some decent trainers for a relaxed, stylish look. Plus, the thick fabric doesn’t have a fluffy lining, which I prefer – no annoying bobbles after the first wash.”

The Head Plan Gratitude Journal, £23

“New year, new me – we’ve all said it. This year I’m focusing on small, realistic changes to boost my wellbeing, starting with this gratitude journal. Its intuitive design offers simple prompts and positive quotes that take the guesswork out of writing. Each morning you record an affirmation, something you’re grateful for and looking forward to, ending the day with a highlight and positive thought. No need to overthink it – small pleasures like seeing friends, making it to the gym, or even the sun shining count – there’s no wrong answer. Taking a few minutes to pause and reflect really makes you appreciate your world. They also have a clever ‘power of 1%’ phone-free timer, £25, encouraging you to spend just one per cent of your day (14 minutes, 24 seconds) focusing on yourself and being fully present.”
