The Get the Gloss team holing their beauty picks of the week

Our editors (and their pampered pets) have been busy reviewing all this week’s new beauty and wellbeing launches. Glossy Picks are go!

Any products in this article have been selected editorially however if you buy something we mention, we may earn commission.

What do you buy for the dog who has everything? A luxury shampoo, of course! Scroll down to see what happened when our beauty director’s pet enjoyed demented new levels of pampering, courtesy of Jo Malone. Elsewhere, we have a hair growth serum that’s a solid alternative to minoxidil and Clinique’s famous Black Honey lipstick has been intriguingly reborn as a mascara. You’d be barking mad to miss out on this week’s Glossy Picks…

Worried about hair loss? Our editorial director has just the thing

Vichy Dercos Aminexil Regen Booster, £47

“If you’re looking for a hair growth serum, but don’t want to go the minoxidil route (it can cause irritation and have a rapid rebound hair loss effect when you stop using it daily) try aminexil. It’s chemically related to minoxidil, although works in a slightly different way by helping anchor the hairs in the scalp to mitigate premature shedding, without the dramatic shed if you stop. It can also be less irritating. I was glad to have this hydrating growth booster with 1.5% aminexil and other supporting goodies (apply on dry hair with a pipette where you have thinning) when my minoxidil ran out and it kept my hair and scalp in great nick in the meantime. In tests, the serum showed reduced hair loss and increased scalp coverage in 12 weeks of daily use.”

GF Fabulosity Hottie Heat Protector Spray, £32

“They call it a heat protector, but Hottie, which constantly flies out of stock, adds shine, protects colour, reduces frizz and smells like a fine fragrance. I tong my hair so it’s my daily go to as it protects up to 230 degrees Celcius. It doesn’t weigh the hair down or make it greasy, so you can use it every day even if you don’t shampoo. And it’s made by Gustav Fouche, the hair maestro, who has transformed my own mop with modern keratin, Hair Botox and his silicone-free range. Use our discount code GTG15 sitewide.”

Roc Derm Correxion Eye Repair, was £34.99 now £24.49

“So much to love about this retinol night cream for eyes, which addresses the four main causes of dark circles: pigmentation, fatigue, inflammation and poor circulation, with targeted ingredients. The cooling metal applicator is beautifully soothing, plus Roc is the OG brand for retinol so there’s great non-irritating formulation involved. And it’s £10.50 off at Boots right now.”

Better You Vitamin D3 Turmeric Spray, £19.99

“Turmeric and its active ingredient curcumin is a potent anti-inflammatory and as is a favourite for those with painful joints, period pain and, according to my colleague Kerry, it lessens a hangover. But the problem is absorption as it needs a boost from black pepper (piperine) to go through the gut, which isn’t always the tastiest. But Better You, whose specialise in oral vitamin sprays, have made this great vitamin D (1000iu) turmeric (100mg) combo absorbed through the mouth lining in five sprays, with tests from the University of Cardiff to prove it. It’s tasty but can stain, so I spray on the inner cheek at the back.”

Jo Malone London x Wild Wash Orange & Cedarwood Dog Shampoo, £18

“If you’re a slightly unhinged dog parent like me, this collab is an absolute dream. Jo Malone London has teamed up with natural dog grooming brand Wildwash to bring their scent know-how to your pup’s bath time or paw wash. The shampoo comes in four beautifully designed bottles (all with the same gorgeous woody citrus scent inside) each featuring different breed. With muddy dog walks upon us, this is perfect timing. I’ve already taken the elasticated bow off my bottle for Lola’s collar, making her the most beautiful, and gorgeously scented, labradoodle in the world, obviously.”

Clinique High impact High-Fi Full Volume Mascara in Black Honey, £27

“Clinique’s iconic Black Honey has been the ultimate your-lips-but-better shade since 1971, and now it’s had a clever glow-up as a mascara (alongside a Black Honey nail polish and eyeshadow quad). The dark berry tone translates beautifully on lashes, giving them a multi-dimensional depth that you don’t get with true black. On my fair lashes, certain lights brought out gorgeous purple undertones, but it would look just as gorgeous on darker lashes too. The real magic is the conical wand though, it grabs every single lash, somehow curving and stretching them simultaneously for proper high drama volume.“

Max Factor Facefinity Lasting Blur Skin-Smoothing Foundation, £9.99

“For a budget base, this seriously delivers. It’s medium coverage but feels really light on the skin, more like a primer in texture really, leaving the skin silky smooth while working its clever blurring magic. Pores look smaller and fine lines are diminished. I applied it with a foundation brush and buffed it in, though it works just as well pressed in with fingers if you’re short on time. And I was impressed with its staying power, it genuinely didn’t budge all day, again leaning into a primer-meets-foundation feel. It comes in 18 shades.”

Bioderma Atoderm Ad Lipid-Replenishing Anti-Itching Balm, £26

“This isn’t the sexiest of purchases but if you or anyone in your family deals with eczema-prone, dry or itchy skin, this large pump bottle is ideal. It’s gentle enough for any age. It’s packed with the lipids that eczema-prone skin lacks (essentially the fats that help skin hold onto moisture and keep its barrier intact), so when flare-ups strike, which they often do as the weather turns colder, this helps break that maddening itch-scratch cycle. Lighter and creamier than you might expect, it sinks in fast with zero greasiness, so it’s brilliant on both face and body.”

Trinny London Fearless Skin Tint Drops, £45

“The liquid-textured weightlessness of these tinted drops belies how moisturising they are; they also have niacinamide and plant extracts to crank up your skin’s luminosity. The finish is candlelight-glowy with line-blurring particles and the coverage is medium and easy to build – a very good night’s sleep in a bottle. They come in 30 shades that blend in smoothly, whether you use a complexion brush or fingers.”

Plum & Ashby Tommy’s Wave of Light Votive Candle, £15

“It’s rare but lovely to see a brand donating 100% of the profits of a special-edition buy to charity – and here’s one that’s done so for seven years. This fresh fig and jasmine-scented candle will bring the peace and consolation of an autumnal garden into your house. Put it into use on 15 October, the end of Baby Loss Awareness Week when people light candles to commemorate lost babies. Aside from the traditional £35 full-size candle, there’s this new £15 votive – with every penny going to Tommy’s, a charity that works to reduce the rates of miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth in the UK.”

MD London The 12 Salt Mousse, £15

“Things could go two ways with a moniker like ‘salt mousse’: it could mean un-done texture and (hopefully) root lift, or you could end up with parched, crunchy hair. I’m pleased to report it’s the former: while there is sea salt in here that noticeably pumps up the volume while making my waves look beachy, there are enough natural oils and conditioners for hair not to get wrecked, stringy and sapped of all moisture. The finish is matte, which is ‘rock chick’ rather than ‘here comes the bride’ – just how I like it.”

SHOP

Yarne Skincare Facial Cleanser, £12.50

“This is an almond oil-based lotion with essential oils of rosemary, fragonia and bog myrtle, which have calming and anti-inflammatory benefits as well as antiseptic and antibacterial ones. Massaged into skin and removed with a damp cloth, you get a deep cleanse and a cobweb-clearing hit of eucalyptus-like aroma. Do go easy if you’re normally sensitive to fragrance; these oils are potent and may be too much around the eyes for some. But if you’re a fan of Liz Earle’s Cleanse & Polish, this similar (but less pricey) cream cleanser is worth checking out.”

Inglot Shimmer Glow Eye Shadow, £12

“Anyone whose fed up with lugging a giant palette in your handbag needs this do-it-all eye shadow mini. It gives you glowy, barely-there shimmer — zero chunky or sticky glitter — but enough to make your eyes pop. The shea butter formula gives it a silky, lightweight feel that can be worn subtly on its own or customised on top of other colours (crease-free). Out of the six shades, this luminous ‘rich gold’ is my favourite, and fits in your purse. A low-maintenance party girl’s dream.”

Nimble Cares Lift Off Power Spray, £12

“You know you’re adulting when a new cleaning spray excites you. This derm-approved kitchen cleaner is super-kind to your skin — plant-based and free of toxins, chemicals, allergens and bleach (but it actually does the job). You can even use it to wash your hard-to-clean fancy water bottle. Plus, I’ve started using it to spritz my bath pre-soak, as I’d been struggling to find something skin-safe. Especially game-changing if you have eczema, dry or sensitive skin.”

SHOP

Aesop Antithesis Intense Body Cleanser, £39

“If you’re done sharing the classic exfoliating Aesop Reverence Aromatique Hand Wash, £33 with guests (yes, I’m obsessed), then it’s time to upgrade your shower ritual instead. This new shower gel has an unusual concoction of black pepper, coriander seed and patchouli, with a spicy, woody aroma — that leaves you feeling deliciously tingly and awake. It has a low-foam consistency, but is thick and luxurious, without drying out the skin. Just for you!”

Haus Labs Triclone Skin Tech Concealer, £30

“From Lady Gaga’s beauty brand, these new skin-loving concealers are a magic wand. Not only do they pull powerful, buildable coverage, but they also de-puff, brighten and conceal redness, with a blurring effect. That’s thank to over 20 hydrating skincare ingredients like arnica, which ensure it doesn’t sit in fine lines. Dot on generously with the plush application sponge, then blend with painterly precision using the Haus Labs Concealer Brush, £26.”
