Years after the announcement that we’d soon see the end of airport carry-on size restrictions on our toiletries, we are STILL having to meticulously pack 100ml-and-under liquids when we fly from most UK airports. The reasons why the fancy technology that will put an end to this misery has so far failed are legion, but our favourite is that the machines are so heavy that security areas have to be rebuilt so the floor can accommodate their weight. Yes, really.
So our travel size toiletries feature is still as essential as ever for anyone jetting off imminently. And don’t forget, your beauty products will likely all have to fit into one clear plastic bag – and mascara and lipstick officially count as a liquid (no, us neither).
Although it is worth checking the rules for the airports you are flying from as they vary – we recently departed from Gatwick which has whizzy new scanners so you can leave your toiletries in your cabin bag. And those flying from Edinburgh and Birmingham can now carry on bottles and containers that hold up to 2 litres. But do bear in mind the airport you are flying back from may have different rules. Who said holidays were relaxing?!
Side note: mini beauty products also serve an excellent secondary purpose that has nothing to do with travel. They are a great way of trialling something you’re not 100 per cent about without having to financially commit to the more expensive full-sized bottle. More so than a sample-sized version which may only give you one or two applications at best, travel-size toiletries should give you at least a week’s worth of usage. That’s long enough to know if you want to invest in the bigger size.
And remember to hold on to the diddy bottle when it’s finished so that when you do need it for travelling you can decant your full-sized version into it.
Here are the mini marvels that you’ll want to make space for in your cabin bag this summer.
The hair texturizer:
