With Chinese New Year upon us, we’re ushering out the Year of the Dragon and welcoming the Year of the Snake. Although the Chinese Lunar New Year is celebrated on 29 January, the Snake Year itself starts on 3 February.
“This difference can sometimes confuse, as many people understandably think that both events happen on the same day,” says Chinese medicine expert Katie Brindle, who has studied the charts to give us her predictions for 2025 – both the year in general, plus what it means for your Chinese animal birth year. What is the energy Year of the Snake 2025?
The energy couldn’t be more different this year. In 2024, the Yang Wood Dragon set a bold and ambitious tone, encouraging us to tap into our leadership qualities, creativity and decisiveness, pursuing ambitions and new opportunities with resilience and clarity. But what on earth is a Yin Wood Snake?
Each Chinese astrological year is defined by one of 12 zodiac animals with their own personality: snake, pig, ram, dragon, horse etc (see below to find your birth year animal). And it’s also defined by its quality – either yin or yang – and its elemental energy: wood, fire, earth, metal, water. Each time an animal year comes around it is subtly different, depending on the quality and element it is combined with. In the case of the Yin Wood Snake, that means:
