We all know good things come in small packages and these perfectly formed beauty buys will make travelling easier and lighter

There was almost a moment where this feature could have become redundant as new fancy airport technology could signal the end of having to meticulously pack 100ml and under liquids in your carry-on luggage. However, nearly all the major UK airports have had to delay using the new machines for a variety of reasons, our favourite being that the machines are so heavy that some airports are having to rebuild the security area so the floor can accommodate the weight  of them.

So if you are travelling on a plane this summer, or anytime in the next year travel-sized products will still be an essential.. And remember they all have to fit into one clear plastic bag…no they won’t let you take two. We’ve tried. And yes, your favourite budget mascara  and best lipstick of all time does count as a liquid so that has to go in the clear bag too.

Travel size toiletries also serve an excellent secondary purpose that have nothing to do with going on holiday. They are an excellent way of really trialling a product you’re not 100 per cent about without having to financially commit to the more expensive full-sized bottle. More so than a sample sized version which may only give you one or two applications at best, travel size toiletries should give you at least a weeks worth of usage and that is enough to then know if you want to invest in the bigger size.

And top tip, hold on to the sample size so that when you do need it for travelling you can decant your full-size into the travel size version.

Here is our round-up of some of the best travel size toiletries out there.

The body kit: Sol de Janeiro Beija Flor Jet Set, £24 (for three products)

This body trio comes in a very handy transparent zip-up bag which could have a million other uses once you’re done with the products. Inside you’ll find one of the brand’s cult body butters, this one contains a natural retinol alternative to help bring plumpness back to the skin. There’s also a 90ml-sized shower gel and a handy 30ml-sized perfume mist all with a fresh and fruity scent.

The texture maker: Hair by Sam McKnight Sundaze Sea Spray, £14 for 50ml

If you like to do minimal hair styling when you’re on holiday then this mini-sized salt spray may be all you need to pack (along with shampoo and conditioner). Unlike some salt sprays it’s not too gritty and salty but still gives hair a gorgeous natural wave and hold. It also contains UV protection to help protect hair in the sun and sea.

The mini deo: Megababe The Smoothie Deo, £8 for 28g

Not only does this natural deodorant come in a great dinky size - perfect for travel, gym bags or handbags - but it contains fruit enzymes to combat body odour (many natural deodorants don't contain anything to prevent smell). There are also probiotics and pH-balancing ingredients in the formula, so with continued use your underarm skin will become smoother and softer too.

The neck smoother: Trinny London The Elevator, £28 for 14.5ml

The key to success and visible results with neck and décolleté products is using them consistently. However, when you’re travelling and potentially restricted on size and weight it’s probably the first product you forfeit. Trinny has tackled this dilemma head-on by offering a mini size of her brand new, peptide-packed neck and décolleté cream so keeping up your regular routine is a cinch.

Coming in very convenient 75ml pouches there is enough product in here for one person washing their hair every night on a week long holiday (unless you have very long hair and then we’d recommend taking two shampoos and one conditioner). There are a few different formulations to choose from but this one contains UV protection and ingredients to keep colour in place, essential if you’re looking for how to care for blonde hair.

Hydrating serum: Elemis Pro-Collagen Rose Micro Serum, £90 for 30ml

Yes this is a pricey small sized serum, but it packs a serious skin caring hit. Containing a mixture of brown and red algae that has been clinically proven to be more hydrating than hyaluronic acid, it also contains pre and probiotics to help strengthen the skin barrier. It has a unique texture of an oil suspended in serum (you can see small oil spheres floating around), the serum part delivers the actives while the oil sinks deeper for maximum moisture. It can be used day and night so may be the only thing you need to pack for your face (apart from a cleanser and SPF of course). This size bottle will last months.

Cleansing balm: Wildsmith Skin Cleansing Balm, £14 for 15ml

If you haven't tried this fantastic cleansing balm then this is a great way to give it a go before committing to the 100ml tub (which is £52 and you will definitely want to as it is one of the best cleansing balms). It is a silky smooth gel that then melts into an oil and makes light work of removing sunscreen and makeup leaving your skin feeling super clean and plump. It also like a spa. We guesstimate a good ten days use out of this size, definitely more if you only use cleanser at night.

And if you love it (which you will) you can then buy the bigger size to use at home.

Compact concealer: Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, £15 for 1ml

We would recommend buying this a few shades darker than you would normally wear it as a concealer as the formula is so creamy and bendable you can then use it on your whole face. It’s also a great size to use when you’re no longer on holiday and for keeping in your bag for through the day touch-ups. Just as with the full-size it comes in 30 shades.

If you’re really tight on space then these genius shampoo sheets forgo the need for bulky bottles and don’t have to take up prime space in the clear plastic bag to get you through customs as they are waterless. They also are completely dissolvable.
