Feeling stiff after a long flight? Want to move (but not too much) while you’re away? Save this 20-minute mobility yoga flow with Victoria Woodhall

You’ve finally arrived on your holiday, but it takes you a few days for your body to truly relax  – and before you know it, you have to come home again.

To get to that relaxation zone faster (no vino involved), here is my short yoga workout, a mobility yoga flow I do as soon as I arrive and most mornings while I’m away. It focuses on hips, shoulders and legs to relieve ‘stuckness’ and stress of travelling – and life!

There’s a saying that ‘motion is lotion’ because movement makes the synovial fluid in your joints become more liquid. When we’re static, it becomes sticky and glue-like, hence the feeling of joint stiffness after sleep, or if you’ve been sitting for hours.

Just 20 minutes long, this yoga video is enough to keep up a movement routine while away, but sufficiently low-effort that you still feel like you are ‘off timetable’. I’ve been doing this holiday yoga for about 20 years, as it means you can truly ‘flop’ because you’ve released a good deal of your stiffness.

Interesting fact: physical yoga practice (known as asana) was originally intended to train your body to sit for long periods in meditation, undistracted by twinges and aches. So think of this short routine as something that will help you get better at switching off, and who knows, it might be the start of a regular yoga routine back home.

Here’s my 20-minute holiday yoga video for you. It was filmed at Galley Bay Resort and Spa, Antigua, on the stunning yoga beachside deck. I was hot off the eight-hour flight from London, and this was my personal routine. It’s suitable for all levels.
