Shavata Singh Brow Tamer Gel, £27
“Shavata Singh has run brow studios in London’s fanciest department stores and taken her tweezers to luminaries such as Victoria Beckham and Adele. So you’d expect good things from her new clear brow gel – and it delivers. It’s ideal for flimsy brow hairs that flop down (me) as it superglues them firmly in place. And if you’ve got semi-permanent microbladed or ombré brows (also me), it’s ideal as it doesn’t add colour, just lift and hold. Plus, it doesn’t flake so no annoying brow dandruff.”
SHOPManicurist Green Natural Nail Polish, in Milky Peach, £14
“New season, new nail colours: I’m switching between this pleasingly peachy, non-iridescent neutral and the chic burgundy Grenat. I’ve had multiple compliments on the former – it simply makes your natural nails look, well, better. Plus, it hides my grim yellowing tips caused by over-enthusiastic use of tanning drops. And as someone with weak nails who has forsworn gels, this dependable French brand’s ethos appeals: fewer nasty chemicals, nourishing rather than damaging but still performs optimally. Nailed it.”
SHOPClarins Extra-Firming Neck & Décolleté, £68
“The French beauty behemoth has been doing neck-firming creams for over 50 years, and this is the 8th formulation rejig, with the very latest collagen-boosting tech. It now includes pecan extract – a new one on me but what I do know is that the vertical sun damage lines on my chest are much reduced from slathering this on every night of the summer. It can’t wipe out the impact of our silly sunbathing practices in the ’80s/’90s but it can mitigate. Worth the outlay.”
SHOPSaucony Women's Hurricane 26, £170
“I feel slightly like I’m wearing clown shoes in these giant orange trainers, but greater visibility is a boon for us road runners as the days get shorter. They’re not cheap but if you’re running 3+ times a week, they’re a winning winter investment. It’s a very stacked design, so lots of foam to absorb all that bouncing off tarmac but, unlike with other similar high-rise styles, I haven’t once rolled my ankle in these. The high-tech framework and wide base makes them surprisingly stable. They’re very light and come in 9 other (more subdued) colours.”

A hard-working, affordable serum? Our beauty director is on it
Byoma Longevity-8 Peptide Serum, £21.99
“This is the latest PDRN and copper peptide serum to hit the shelves. For the price, it’s an absolute powerhouse, ideal for anyone 30-plus. Copper peptides work hard to smooth fine lines, while the vegan PDRN claims to boost luminosity over time. There’s also a generous dose of ceramides to strengthen your skin barrier, which has the added bonus of leaving skin glowy. Some PDRN serums can feel tacky, but this one has a lovely silky texture that sinks in instantly, making it so easy to layer straight after cleansing and before your other serums and moisturiser. Bravo, Byoma – another smash hit.”
SHOPUnity Rollers by Jack Mead, £35
“If hair rollers have left you nonplussed in the past, you must try these. Created by celebrity hair stylist Jack Mead, the set comes with 6 rollers in small, medium and large, so you can create everything from bouncy curls to looser waves. The clever bit is the aluminium core, which retains heat brilliantly. Simply roll them into freshly blow-dried hair, or give them a quick blast with your dryer once they’re in, and let them do the rest of the work while you get on with your makeup. Each size comes in its own colour with matching section clips too, so no more hunting for stray grips mid-rolling.”
SHOP“Don’t let the size of this dinky 48g pot fool you: this lightweight gel moisturiser goes a lot further than it looks. It melts down to an serum-like consistency the second you apply it, so a small dollop spreads over your whole face with ease. Wonderfully cool and refreshing, you can practically feel your skin drinking it up. Formula-wise, you’re getting hyaluronic acid and niacinamide for serious hydration, plus Cerave’s signature ceramides to help strengthen your skin barrier. Nice work.”
SHOPOlaplex Shine Serum Oil Mist, £36
“If you love the hydrating goodness of a hair oil but find it too greasy, this clever bi-phase mist is worth your attention. Give it a good shake first to ensure the oil and serum fully mix together. And don’t be fooled by how light the mist feels. The first time I used it, I wasn’t sure any product had come out; that’s how invisible it is. But it’s packed with Olaplex’s signature bond-builder to fight breakage, the serum helps combat frizz, and the oils nourish and add shine. Plus, it delivers excellent heat protection. Use on damp hair before styling or mist over dry strands for instant shine. It works on all hair types as well as extensions.”

What's new in our contributing beauty editor's handbag?
“This lip and cheek multi-tasker is an instant favourite. The texture is silky and light-feeling (it’s not too greasy or waxy thanks to hyaluronic acid blended with nourishing plant oils) and the colour pay-off is just right: an instant pop that’s strong enough to show on the lips but not so intense it’ll scare the horses. It’s dewy rather than shiny and a cinch to use. There’s a tea rose and a pinky brown shade too. One to always have in your handbag for a reliable spruce-up.”
SHOPGatineau Defi Lift 3D-V Lifting Serum, £85
“In this GLP-1 era, there’s a whole raft of new buys targeted at ‘lifting’ and ‘volumising’ slack or gaunt skin. While neither are physically possible with skincare, this soothingly scented, hydrating face serum does tackle tired-looking skin. Collagen and elasticity-boosting peptides and epidermal growth factors help tauten, while ‘lipofilling’ plant extracts are said to stimulate fat cell volume under the skin – you should see a difference in eight weeks. While you wait for that to kick in, there’s a pleasingly (but temporary) smoothing and tightening effect.”

The Inkey List Bio-Active Ceramide Eye Cream, £15
“Eye creams jam-packed with active ingredients often end up inflaming delicate eye skin and having an adverse effect, at least in my experience. This cosseting gel-cream focuses on nourishing and protecting the eye area instead, while peptides gently work on minimising crow’s feet and undereye crepiness. You can smooth it all over your lids without fear of suffocating the skin; it cools and cushions and helps you look less bleary. Well-priced too.”
SHOPL’Entropiste Perfumes the Discovery Set, £63.59
“L’Entropiste is a ‘punk’ perfume house, existing to shake up the world of fragrance through ‘mastered chaos’: everything about its scents and presentation is deliberately wonky. Expect notes that ‘clash’ and caps that don’t appear to fit. The result is exhilaratingly original – these are perfumes that make you do a double-take, then want more. Think chocolate and ash, citrus and incense, iris and rice. If you’re ready to broaden your perfume horizons, this cool ‘taster’ set is the best way to dip your toe into olfactory anarchy.”

Our contributing editor has found the perfect brush for her curls
Tangle Teezer The Complete Care Brush Curly-Coily, £22
“Meet your do-it-all budget hairbrush. The firm teeth are designed to deliver an addictively nervous system-soothing scalp massage while you detangle — which is, by the way, much quicker and with less breakage (with maximum coverage thanks to the wide head). Plus, the brushing motion smooths the hair cuticles, too, for added shine and de-frizzing. It also comes with different bristle patterns to suit all hair types: from this curly girl version with more flex (which made battling my knots a breeze), to one for fine, wavy and straight hair. Genius.”
SHOPDcypher Beauty Custom Foundation, £39
“If you’re fed up with always buying the wrong coverage or colour, this reformulated AI-powered customised foundation — which has now launched in John Lewis with on-the-spot mixing — will be a game-changer. A quick scan of your face creates a bespoke shade that matches your skin tone, vibrancy and depth. Then you can now also customise the finish (I went for a glowy ‘radiant’ but there’s also natural and matte), as well as the heaviness of coverage and skin type. I thought mine looked too light in the bottle, but it blended seamlessly. No more orange lines here!”
SHOPSkin Rocks The Support Mask, £65
“For anyone who dreads the impact of seasonal shifts on their sensitive skin, this intensive treatment is your best friend for autumn. It contains a nourishing cocktail of ceramides and jojoba wax, which create a (slightly waxy-feeling) protective shield around the skin barrier, and calms redness, too. Best of all, it’s low-effort: you can leave it on when you sleep, like a super-charged night cream or apply a thicker layer for a 10-minute deep hydration quickie. It’s not cheap, but even a weekly hit will help you stay ahead.”
SHOPOribe Hair Alchemy Bond Building Elixir, £75
“My curls have become even more brittle after months of heatwaves — and this strengthening leave-in hair serum is the ideal post-summer SOS rescue. It targets three bonds in the hair, which can be weakened by heat, colouring and environmental stress, for inside-out repair with nourishing plant-based proteins and botanicals. You apply a few drops on wet hair pre-styling and it’s very light, so even fine hair won’t be weighed down. My hair looked noticeably less frazzled after a few washes. Plus, you’ll want to inhale Oribe’s signature citrusy-floral fragrance.”
